Sesame – King of the Seeds
Sesame seeds have been cultivated by man for thousands of years – going back to the earliest stages of civilization. It’s been known as a rejuvenation food for eons. It’s used widely in the Middle & Far East as well as in Africa. In Israel, Turkey & Arabian countries, a candy made from sesame seeds and honey called ‘Halvah’ is popular. It’s said to enhance sex appeal & virility.
How does it work? Because of its high nutrition content. Richer in calcium than milk, cheese or nuts; a protein content 19 to 28% higher than meat; rich in the amino acid methionine & so much more. It is also a rich source of lecithin which is a constituent of brain and nerve tissue and an essential component of semen. Lecithin keeps blood vessels free of cholesterol deposits. Lecithin is also responsible for supporting the pituitary, pineal and sex glands.
The combination of honey and sesame seeds (halvah) packs a powerful health boost. French doctors investigated the popular belief that halvah is an aphrodisiac and found that the abundant magnesium, potassium & aspartic acid does indeed support libido.
Sesame seeds are available in most health & ethnic food stores. They can be easily added to cereals, salads, smoothies or you can make home-made halvah:
1 cup fresh sesame seeds (be sure they’re fresh as they can become rancid 6 months after harvest)
2 teaspoons natural honey
Grind the sesame seeds in an electric seed grinder. Pour sesame meal into a bowl and knead honey into it with a spoon until it’s well mixed and it becomes a hard dough. The dough can be made into small balls and rolled with whole sesame seeds, coconut or other food.
Roman soldiers were given rations of sesame and honey cakes. It was believed (& experienced) that a man could walk farther and survive longer on this ration than on any other food of equal weight. It’s wonderful when a health-promoting rejuvenation food not only delivers a nutritious punch but also does so in a sweet and delicious way!
